ANATOMY of a COMIC STRIP page
&
Little Eva and Gus

There are many stages to the creation of a single comic strip. All, however, start with an idea. The idea can be an image, or a single word. From that, the comic strip artist  creates a complete story in miniature. The following pictures outline the stages I took to complete Astrobear strip #20.

LITTLE EVA - A SCRIBBLE ANIMATION

Here's a piece of what I call "scribble" animation, the end result a sketchy line quality that breathes its own life into the movement. I wanted the main emphasis of the animation to be on acting through posing and timing. No attempt to keep the drawings "on model" as in typical animation. This would normally be my first ruff pass, working out posing, timing, etc,  before refining the drawings (making them look pretty) during the redraw process. I wanted to retain a child's love of scribbling, so no cleaning up of the sketches here. With some color added and original music I composed , I hoped to create a whimsical treatment of a small child trying to give her dog a bath. Enjoy!
